Sinus Conditions

Diseases of the nose and sinuses affect millions of people each year, leading to pain, fatigue, sleep discomfort, breathing difficulties, and poor quality of life. Seasonal allergies, septal deviation and chronic sinus infections are just a few types of sinus disorders treated by otolaryngologists, or ear, nose and throat doctors. Fortunately, treatment options are plentiful and include medications such as nasal sprays and antibiotics, immunotherapy and surgical procedures.

Types of Sinus Disorders

Otolaryngologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of nasal cavity and sinus conditions. Nasal and sinus disorders we evaluate include:

  • Allergies

  • Deviated nasal septum

  • Nasal polyps

  • Rhinitis

  • Sinusitis

  • Smell and taste disorders

  • Tumors of the nose and sinus cavities

In order to get to the root cause of many nose and sinus disease, we will obtain a thorough history of your nasal problems. We also may conduct a diagnostic endoscopy as part of a clinical examination.  This office procedure is conducted under local anesthesia and involves inserting a camera into the nasal cavities.

Treatment Options

We offer a wide range of treatment options for nose and sinus disorders, including prescription medications, allergy testing and immunotherapy (allergy shots), and surgery.

If the sinus condition stems from a structural problem, one of the following surgical interventions may be necessary:

  • Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS)

  • Septoplasty

  • Balloon sinuplasty (in-office)
